    Appointments

Online appointment booking is now available! Check the links on the left hand side of the page to enrol and you can schedule your own appointment without having to call. Once you have scheduled your appointment my office will call you 1-2 business days before to remind you of your appointment.

    What is your cancellation policy?

If you need to cancel an appointment it is important that you contact me as early as possible. In order to avoid a charge for a missed appointment, please provide at least  24 hours notice of your cancellation.

How many sessions will I need?

Most people wonder how long they will have to be in therapy before they start to see improvements. The majority of my practice focuses on short-term therapy to achieve specific goals and most people see me for 5-15 hours. If you have multiple concerns, depression, or obsessive-compulsive disorder you may need more than 20 hours of treatment. I often assign reading and exercises to do at home to help speed up therapy, reduce the number of sessions you need and help you develop healthy daily habits or positive routines.

As therapy progresses, most people feel that they can move from weekly to biweekly appointments and a refresher appointment or two after you have discontinued therapy if needed. However, a number of people come to see me every two weeks or every month for a coaching session to help them when they get stuck with their self-help program right from the very beginning. Even when you have the money it can be hard to find the time to make it in for weekly appointments so I'm pretty comfortable working around what works for you!

Do I need a referral to make an appointment?

No. You only need a referral to see a psychiatrist, not a psychologist. However, if you also need a referral to a psychiatrist I am able to make the referral for you (this is handy especially if you do not have a family doctor).

Are your services covered by Alberta Health Care?

Psychological services are not covered by Alberta Health Services, but you may have some coverage through your employer's extended health care plan (e.g., Blue Cross). Also, check to see if you have additional coverage through your health spending account if your employer provides that benefit. Whatever fees aren't covered by your employer can be claimed on your income tax as a medical expense.

Please note, that I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology and I am a Registered Psychologist in the Province of Alberta. This satisfies the requirements of all plans that provide coverage for psychological services. At the end of each session I will provide you with a receipt with all the necessary information that your provider requires for you to get reimbursed.

Free services are available through Alberta Health Services if you have a diagnosable mood or anxiety disorder by calling 403.943.1500 and seeing if you qualify for one of the community based services offered. However, many people prefer not to wait and get the services they need more quickly through a private therapist. In addition, some people do not want their therapy sessions documented on their medical record.

What methods of payment do you accept?

I accept payment by Visa, MasterCard, debit, cash and cheque. Many people like to use their credit cards so that they can get reimbursed from their health plan before their bill comes in (the points you might collect are a bonus too!).
